Update on Drive-Rite Operations due to governmental action arising from the Coronavirus.
Dear Customer, Supplier, Partner and Colleague,
In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are constantly reviewing the situation regarding COVID-19 in line with local and national government, public health and WHO guidelines, and our strategy is based on this advice. The health and safety of our staff, customers, suppliers and communities in which we work, remains our priority and we, at Drive-Rite and AMK, take the Coronavirus pandemic very seriously. We continue to monitor developments as they evolve and will take the appropriate steps.
The latest local news is that the Irish Government have asked people to stay at home in all circumstances, except in a specific set of cases including to travel to and from work where the work is considered an essential service. As you are aware, some parts of our product portfolio are considered an essential Product and of service where used in WAV, Ambulance, Fire and Rescue Vehicles which all are aiding the battle against this deadly virus.
Based on the most recent advice and instruction from the Irish Government and Public Health guidelines we are closing operations in Dublin from Friday 3rd April up to Monday 20th April. We have prioritized any orders that are deemed essential Product and are dispatching those before close of day tomorrow.
We have taken measures to allow some of our staff to work remotely where possible and they will be contactable and working as best as possible during this time to assist our partners.
Therefore please be assured that we will try to maintain service throughout this time although our normal operations and duties will be impacted, while we adhere to government and health regulations. Drive-Rite and AMK are taking all reasonable measures to minimize this impact to Customers and Suppliers. We are striving to resume performance as quickly as possible and will keep you informed.
Management continues to monitor the impact daily. Our team will provide updates either by email or phone to all customers and global partners. For any queries or further details please send an email to the relevant contact details below:

AMK AIR SPRING COMPRESSORS
In the automotive industry, forgery of branded products is increasingly becoming a problem. Original products are copied and sold at seemingly cheaper prices. However, the goods are often a poor reproduction and can end up costing both the workshop and the driver more. In our first update for 2019, we have put together the benefits of using original products for you.
ORIGINAL VERSUS COPY
Why buy original?
The excellent efficiency and workmanship of AMK compressors means the pressure required is achieved within a short space of time. This has a positive effect on the service life and performance of the compressor. The original product is also more impressive when it comes to noise and vibrations.
Very high quality standards
AMK compressors for the independent after-market are 100 % compliant with the specifications of the vehicle manufacturer. The compressors are produced in Germany under the same production conditions as for the OE/OES equipment. Every AMK compressor delivered has successfully passed a function and performance test.
Our recommendation
Use AMK compressors and benefit from increased customer satisfaction and lower complaint rates. This is better for your resources and especially your sanity!
Only buy from authorised dealers and check that the compressor has AMK branding on the magnetic valve and the motor housing.

Standing still means going backwards!
This is a philosophy the AMK Group and Drive-Rite both agree upon. We have decided, not only due to this common vision, but as a strategic plan to move forward together with the AMK Group. We are delighted to announce that our company, Drive-Rite Ltd, has become a part of the German AMK Group, located in Kirchheim/Teck (Germany).
The AMK Group has been a market and technology leader in the sectors of Drives, Automation and Automotive for more than five decades now. Almost 1,000 employees around the world are deploying their expertise and their passion to bring even MORE DRIVE to machines, systems and automobiles.
The AMK Group has been supplying us since 2009 with extremely high quality "made in Germany" compressors. These are installed as the heart of our Intelliride air suspension systems for all our light commercial vehicles and SUV applications. This will not change in the future. On the contrary: This merging of the strengths and competencies present in both companies will enable us – and you – to gain access to an even broader pool of resources and expertise. Naturally, our HQ site in Dublin will continue as usual and your contact partners will not change. The management and team of Drive-Rite will remain in position and look forward to bringing new and exciting products to the market in the near future.
We are certain that this cooperation between our two companies will lead to a solid foundation for innovative and high-quality solutions, and we look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with you.
With best regards,
John Giles.

Dodge are the first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to offer Semi Air Kits as an option fit direct from the factory in both 2015 Ram 3500 single-rear-wheel and Dually models
THE AVAILABLE AUTO-LEVEL REAR AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM FOR RAM 3500 deploys engineering specific to the weight class and the typically tougher assignments given to these pickups. Here, leaf springs are augmented with air springs mounted on top of the axle, resulting in the air springs and leaf springs working together for load carrying. The technology is utilized in both 2015 Ram 3500 single-rear-wheel and Dually models.
Class-pioneering, the groundbreaking Auto-Level Rear Air Suspension System for Ram Heavy Duty models is a dual-mode operator-activated system specifically engineering for the exceptional GVWRs and GCWRs expected from these relentless workhorses.
In Normal Load-Leveling Mode, the system monitors ride heights on both vehicle sides, constantly adjusting for load shifting or changes in road surfaces; a level load profile and proper headlamp-toroad angle—even while undertaking jaw-dropping hauling—is assured.
Alternate Ride Height Mode lowers the rear suspension by about an inch to maintain an even alignment between the hitch and trailer tongue. This mode ensures a level load and creates a parallel, level relationship between the vehicle and the trailer, ensuring an even “rake” from the front of the pickup through the trailer.
Drive-Rite are pleased to highlight our Auto Level Suspension System for the X62 Movano now fully certified by Opel and offered as an approved certified conversion. Product launched at the Autosalon Brussels Motor Show last Friday.
We welcome new employee Eamonn Moran to the Quality Department where he will work alongside Sharon Meyler in providing support to all our business partners at the supplier and customer level. Following a recent third party audit and Inspection at its headquarters in Dublin, Drive-Rite Air have sucessfully full-filled all requirements for renewal of the ISO 9001 Certification.
This comes as no surprise since the introduction and implementation of LEAN principles to the Company last year has improved internal processes, created greater efficiency and ensured more satisfied customers.
New chassis technologies from BWI Group have been selected by JLR to help meet the design objectives of the new Range Rover Sport. The vehicle is equipped with BWI’s latest air suspension and lightweight active roll control (pictured) actuators to allow a combination of dynamic performance, refinement and off-road ability.
To meet Land Rover’s challenging design request, BWI worked with supplier Firestone to develop a new air sleeve for the company’s air suspension modules. A bespoke nylon-reinforced rubber compound was developed with exceptional hot and cold climate performance and the wall thickness was reduced to cut hysteresis. These changes, together with detailed component optimization to reduce friction, have helped achieve increased absorption of small road irregularities. To provide the protection and durability needed for off-road activities, the air sleeves are sheathed in an aluminum restraining guide. Weight has been reduced through careful design analysis and by increased use of aluminium.
The BWI actuators now offer 134° of rotation compared with 90° for the previous-generation system, helping Land Rover’s engineers deliver 260mm of wheel travel at the front and 272mm at the rear to further improve extreme off-road ability. The very high angular articulation also increases packaging flexibility, allowing a compact architecture that does not require intrusion into unrelated spaces. The system is also shorter than the previous generation system, thanks to a reduced ball screw length. Mass has been reduced by 2.4kg at the front and 2.2kg at the rear, largely through the use of hollow torsion bars with cast splined lever arms, also supplied by BWI.
BWI technology is also central to the Range Rover Sport’s new dynamic response system, which is calibrated to almost completely eliminate body roll at cornering forces up to 0.4g. The company is supplying elements of its active stabiliser bar system, including the all-important ball screw rotary actuators that provide roll-control torque up to 1,500Nm. When cornering forces are detected, the front and rear actuators apply a counter-acting rotational torque to the vehicle chassis via the cast lever arms of the stabiliser bar system. Independent control of the front and rear roll stiffness allows real-time optimisation of the oversteer /understeer characteristic, improving turn-in, comfort and safety.

Drive-Rite Air Suspensions of Dublin, Ireland, has named Plastisol Ltd, of Chorley, Lancashire , as their UK fitting agent for motorhomes and commercial vehicles. The decision was easily arrived following a long relationship that exists between Gary Smith (MD of Plastisol) and the Drive-Rite Air Suspension management dating back 15 years. John Lindsay , sales manager of Drive-Rite, says “the timing is propitious to engage in a new UK partnership with a reputable company like Plastisol who have many years of experience in the transformation of LCV’s and the successful fitting of air suspensions systems on specialised vehicles such low floor mini buses.” John had recently met with new sales manager of Plastisol Peter Anderson to discuss the synergies that the opportunity presented, and both came to the conclusion that a partnership was an “extremely good fit”. Plastisol and Drive-Rite will together change the landscape of retrofit air suspensions in the UK with regards to service, availability and installation of the highest quality, with the ultimate objective to provide satisfaction to hundreds of UK motorhome users.

Our online product search has already incorporated the new part number system.

From the point of view of driving dynamics, commercial motor vehicles pose a special challenge for all automotive chassis designers and engineers. Load and weight distribution varies and are rarely in the best optimum condition, unlike in a normal passenger car. However, a commercial motor vehicle loaded to capacity, must drive just as safe and comfortable as one which is driven when unloaded. This is a balancing act that the standard steel spring suspension can only address with a compromise solution.
Anyone who wants to drive comfortably, with the optimum dynamics and still keep a constant level vehicle for driving, where the base vehicle and chassis are to a large degree protected from the load, should take a look at the current most innovative full air suspension system created for the Renault Master. The system developed for Renault and in conjunction with Renault and Renault-Tech, by suspension specialist Drive-Rite (Dublin) replaces the original steel suspension and is available as an option fit, at time of ordering from the Renault Factory. The design incorporates purpose made Air Springs from the world’s leading air spring manufacturer Firestone, one of Drive-Rite’s exclusive development partners.
Advantages of this full air suspension system: Unlike a steel spring suspension which deflects under load, an air suspension system automatically adjusts its air pressure to accommodate the different loads, not its geometry. The air spring compensates for the higher load with an appropriately higher pressure in the air spring. This leads to minimal changes in the response characteristics, but not in the programmed set ride height level which is maintained at all times. This can be easily seen by a casual observer – when looking at the vehicle from the outside, an air-sprung vehicle always keeps the same relationship in height of car body to axles, completely independent of the load. The Air suspension is fully compatible with the ESP and has no adverse effect on the braking efficiency.
This is not the limit of the potential of the Drive-Rite product. The IntelliRide control, developed by Drive-Rite, and also used by many other convertors, offers many other possibilities and features ! With the press of a button individual programmable height levels can easily be selected. Raising the rear of a Renault Master to improve loading or unloading is easily achieved as is lowering the rear to a minimum level for easy access. The quick raising of the vehicle to ride height is achieved with the aid of an on board air reservoir that was purpose made for the application.
With the IntelliRide you have all the options, and the unique hand held controller also acts as an intelligent self-diagnostic unit. When in Manual mode the customer can adjust the rear vehicle height to any position thus facilitating loading/unloading at different dock levels. While in Service mode the system is secure for vehicle maintenance and changing the spare wheel.
Therefore the new optional Drive-Rite full air system for the Renault Master is the professional high tech solution for all those who need flexibility, maximum comfort and safe driving on a daily basis.
When considering the many advantages of the Renault Master full air suspension, one point is often forgotten – the Firestone Air Springs help to reduce noise and road vibration to the drivers and passengers. Transmission of vibration to the car body is significantly reduced or eliminated with the air suspension fitted. The material is less stressed which minimizes general wear and tear. Other extra advantages of this load protecting air suspension system when driving is improved comfort for the passengers. The air suspension improves the driver’s comfort - an important aspect for commercial drivers on long haul journeys or drivers spending long days at the wheel. Don’t forget also the air suspension guarantees optimum headlamp aim with every loaded condition !

In addition to the high-end full air suspension solution, Drive-Rite has developed a technically superior, high quality semi-air system for the Renault Master, which with minimal maintenance stands up to the most challenging transportation applications.
With a semi-air system, special Firestone tapered sleeve or convolute air springs with individual adjustable air pressures work in conjunction with the steel springs of the original chassis. The normal springs in the rear axle of the Renault Master remain in place, and are supported in their daily work by the additional Firestone air springs.
Advantages of this efficient and cost-effective solution are: more clearance, significantly higher roll stability, (clearly noticeably with cross-winds and in tight curves) and altogether much improved handling and driving comfort.
The Drive-Rite systems for the Renault Master win out due to the ease of fitting (1-2 hours), which is possible thanks to a clever design which utilize original fixations in the chassis.

Renault Master.
Opel.

If you own a Dodge Ram 1500 (2009-2012) with rear coil spring suspension, you may have noticed that when your truck is fully loaded, the bed of your vehicle sags considerably more than it would with a leaf spring suspension.
Firestone’s solution to this problem is the Dodge Ram Air Conversion System. It is designed to replace the factory coil spring with an air spring, converting the rear suspension to an Airide™ suspension. The full air conversion provides a higher leveling capacity – up to the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle – than traditional systems, while smoothing the vehicle’s ride.
Our Dodge Ram Air Conversion System keeps the vehicle level under all load conditions. The conversion maintains all the factory hardware and suspension geometry to seamlessly integrate the air springs with the factory coil spring retainers.
Easily installed with simple hand tools, the systemimproves steering and vehicle control while reducing bottoming out when adding a load. The Dodge Ram Air Conversion System allows for effortless loading and trailer attachment, thanks to the capability for a 6-inch kneel at the hitch by “exhausting” air from the springs. The kneeling feature is controlled by an in-cab switch; no calibration is required. The Firestone Dodge Ram Air Conversion System comes with a limited lifetime warranty on springs.
